As I watched the election coverage and the bickering between partisan political commentators my thought was, ‘when will the healing begin?’.   Whatever your political persuasion, now is the time to come together and begin the process.  As Christians, 1 Timothy 2:1-2 commands us to pray for our leaders.  The Apostle Paul wrote this to his protégé Timothy at a time when Nero was the leader of the Roman Empire.  Nero was a terrible leader who endorsed the persecution of Christians and various other nasty activities.  Prayer seemed to be a strange request for such a vile leader.  I believe that Paul made this request so the early church would pray for the salvation of their leaders so that their leadership will embody Godly leadership principles.   Today, we must begin to pray for our new leadership.  It will not be easy for most of us but with God all things are possible.  We trusted in God yesterday and we must continue to trust that His power is greater than any government.   While we pray, we must also take  action to keep our leadership responsible and accountable  for all, not just some of the people.  I’m reminded of a song we sung in grade school , ‘Let there be peace on earth & let it begin with me’.    If we are truly one nation under God, what are you going to do to begin the healing?
